Learning the practices of meditation and mindfulness can change patterns of relating that cause suffering. These are powerful tools and well worth your while to learn because for the most part we are reactionary creatures. And it is our reactions that keep us trapped in rigid behaviors that stunt our growth and understanding of others. One benefit of mindfulness and meditation practice is that they help us develop will power over our emotions. When we pause instead of react we allow time to move from the reactionary part of our brain to the executive function of our brain. The executive function of our brain can be continually developed and refined by consciously evaluating an interaction and making a decision about what kind of outcome would be the most productive and healing, not only for yourself but whomever you are encountering.
